12 to 14 March 2027, in Lahore. The Punjab Chief Minister marked the dates publicly, which makes this the rare festival cycle where the calendar question is settled months ahead — 2026's dates were confirmed only weeks before the festival.

The days matter as much as the dates: Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Two of the three festival days are already weekend, and if 2026's pattern repeats, the Friday becomes a notified public holiday closer to the festival.

Why did Basant move from February to March?

The 2026 revival ran 6–8 February; 2027 sits roughly five weeks later. The government has not published a single-line reason, so we won't invent one — but the practical effects are real either way: warmer days on the rooftop (Lahore's March average high runs around 30°C against February's 24°C), longer evenings, and a longer run-up for the season's manufacturing if permits open in time.

Can you buy kites right now?

Legally, no — from anyone. Kite-flying material can only be sold in the permitted window, and the 2027 manufacturing and sale permits have not been issued; the trade association is actively lobbying for production to start from September 2026 precisely because 2026's late permits caused city-wide shortages.

What is legal now is reserving.
